Although it feels like the Google Pixle 6 series has just been released, the first revelations about the Google Pixel 7 series have come.
There have been recent reports that Google is working on its second-generation Tensor chipsets. The chipset will power the upcoming Google Pixel 7 series, which uses Samsung’s 5300 Exynos modem for connectivity. The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are codenamed Cheeta and Panther, respectively. For reference, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro use the Tensor GS101 chipset, codenamed “Oriole” and “Raven”. According to a report by 9to5Google, a Tensor processor with the model number GS201, codenamed “Cloudripper”, is being tested.
In addition to Cloudripper, there are three codenames connected to Exynos modems. Two of them – Cheeta and Panther are considered the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. From the first Pixel smartphone, Sailfish, to the last Pixel smartphone, the Pixel 5 “Redfin,” which carried the codename for a sea creature, Pixel devices have always had a codename associated with a fish or other sea creature.
The codenames for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are Oriole and Raven, respectively. This is followed by the Pixel 6a, codenamed Bluejay, and the Pixel Notepad, codenamed Pipit, which are bird names. For the Pixel 7 series, the company is changing its codename scheme to animal names, suggesting that each generation of Pixel phones will have a new codename scheme.
The third codename associated with the Exynos modem – “Ravenclaw” sounds like a Hogwarts reference book, but unless Google has something magical planned for the Pixel 7 series, things might be different. Separately, the Google Pixel foldable smartphone is expected to go into production in the third quarter of 2022 and launch alongside the Google Pixel 7 series in the fourth quarter of 2022.
