The “Real Folding Window” developed by LG Chem is coated with a new material with a thickness of several tens of microns (μm) on both sides of a thin plastic PET film to improve the heat resistance and mechanical properties of the plastic. Compared with the existing tempered glass, it is thinner and has the same hardness, but there is no crack on the screen. Compared with the existing polyimide film, its price is more competitive, and due to its excellent flexibility, it can fully maintain durability even if it is folded more than 200,000 times. LG Chem has also made significant improvements to the creases that appear in the folding part of the screen.
LG plans to mass-produce the display material in 2022 and start sales in 2023.
