TSMC plans to increase the 8-inch mature process foundry quotation, 12-inch is still under evaluation

The global semiconductor shortage has become the norm. Due to tight production capacity, the foundry fees of some wafer foundries have also risen again and again.

On March 9, according to a report from Taiwan’s “Electronic Times”, some IC designers said that TSMC plans to increase the foundry quotation of 8-inch mature processes in the third quarter, while 12-inch mature and advanced processes are still under evaluation. In September last year, TSMC notified customers that foundry prices for all chips would increase by up to 20%. Among them, the price of sub-7nm process technology will increase by 3%-10%, and the price of mature process above 12nm will increase by 20%.
Another report said that the 8-inch capacity of most wafer foundries is still tight, and capacity expansion is even more unlikely. Some analysts pointed out that in the future, insufficient production capacity of 8 inches will become the norm in the industry.
It is understood that the downstream of the 8-inch wafer covers power management chips (PMIC), CMOS image sensor chips, fingerprint identification chips, display driver ICs, radio frequency chips, and power devices, while the 12-inch wafer covers AI chips. , SoC, GPU, memory and other consumer electronics fields. At present, the production capacity of the former is tight and the supply is in short supply; the production capacity of the latter has been relieved to a certain extent.

Google Pixel 6a and Pixel Watch launch delayed for this reason

The Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro are Google’s current flagships, and multiple reports suggest the company is working on a cheaper Google Pixel 6a. The phone was originally expected to debut at the I/O conference around May, but new reports suggest the giant is facing supply chain and chip shortages. It is said that the launch of the new product has been delayed to another date – around July. Jon Prosser said that while the Pixel Watch is currently expected to arrive on May 26, its launch could also be delayed further.

According to previous leaks, the Google Pixel 6a will be available in three colors: black, white and green, and only the 128GB model. The Pixel 6a is expected to feature the same Tensor GS101 chip as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. But given that chip shortages are still widespread, sharing the SoC for all three phones at the same time could be a problem.

As for the Pixel Watch, it was originally expected to launch in May, but now sources say the Pixel Watch will also be delayed, possibly until July. According to the leaks, the watch is said to be code-named “rohan” and it will be available in 3 colors: gray, black and gold.

In terms of specifications, the Google Pixel 6a may feature a 6.2-inch FHD+OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and an in-display fingerprint scanner. Two options are said to be available: 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The phone is likely to run the Android 12 operating system out of the box.

Samsung Electronics was attacked by hackers, confidential information was leaked, and the other party did not mention the ransom

On March 7, according to media reports, Samsung Electronics was recently attacked by the hacker group Lapsus$, resulting in the leakage of a large amount of confidential data. Qualcomm’s confidential source code. It is reported that these materials are split into three compressed files, which are downloaded by the outside world through a peer-to-peer network.

But it is strange that the hacker group has not contacted Samsung Electronics at present, nor mentioned the ransom, and the intention is unknown.

The above-mentioned report also stated that Lapsus$ had a previous “conspiracy”, which stole the confidential information of the chip giant Nvidia and asked the latter to release the graphics card mining lock and open source graphics card drivers. The Lapsus$ attack on Samsung Electronics may have a similar purpose.

Hacker groups attack tech giants regardless of industry. So far, Tesla, McDonald’s, Foxconn and other companies have been hacked. Around July last year, hackers launched a global ransomware attack that hit more than 1,000 companies, which was more harmful than a single hack.

Hacker organizations attacking tech giants has become a major hidden danger in the global tech circle, because tech giants have technical secrets and customer information. Once leaked, it will not only damage their own business interests, but also endanger the data security of customers.

Apple may launch new monitors that are more affordable for general consumers

Apple was previously rumored to be working on two new monitors. One is an updated version of the Pro Display XDR, and the other is a basic version for ordinary consumers. According to the latest news, the “basic” display is likely to be unveiled at Apple’s spring conference in the early morning of March 9.

It is reported that the price of this monitor is about half of the Pro Display XDR, the size is still 27 inches, and the price is about 2,500 US dollars. However, this monitor doesn’t use a mini-LED screen, so it may not have the same contrast ratio as the Pro Display XDR.

If Apple does launch a new display in March this year, the probability of launching a new Mac mini at the same time is also very high. It is reported that the new Mac mini adopts a new design language, which is smaller and has richer interfaces. In terms of performance, the new Mac mini will likely use the new M2 chip, which has stronger performance.

Extending the 3.5mm headphone jack? Sony Xperia new machine renderings exposed

With a right-angle middle frame and a fish screen design, some netizens have exposed the news of the new Sony Xperia flagship phone. It is reported that the new flagship phone is named Xperia 1 IV.

According to leaked statistics, the front of the Xperia flagship new phone is a 6.5-inch OLED screen. There are three cameras on the back, and the layout is similar to the previous generation.
In other respects, the dimensions of the new Sony Xperia are 164.7×70.8×8.3mm, and the width is comparable to the 6.1-inch Samsung Galaxy S22 (the Galaxy S22 body width is 70.6mm), and there is no pressure to operate with one hand.
Although the Sony Xperia 1 IV retains the side fingerprint recognition scheme, it is puzzling that it still uses the 3.5mm headphone jack
The content of this revelation is limited to the renderings of the new phone. The processor and rear camera combination scheme are not mentioned. It is expected that the three rear cameras may be a combination scheme of wide-angle main camera, telephoto, and ultra-wide-angle. Wide-angle The main camera supports OIS optical image stabilization.
