The Sony Xperia 1 III is still a formidable smartphone and one that ushered in a number of world-firsts. As such, it’s not all that surprising that the 1 IV is perhaps one of the most iterative upgrades to the Xperia 1 family yet.

The main improvements manifest in the move to the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, the battery capacity has jumped from 4500mAh to 5000mAh, the selfie snapper (finally) boasts a larger 12Mp sensor, the implementation of the ‘Full Stage’ stereo speakers have been improved and the standout 6.5in 120Hz 21:9 ‘CinemaWide’ 4K HDR OLED display is now reportedly 50% brighter, compared to last year’s Mk III.

When we reviewed the Sony Xperia 1 III back in 2021, we were impressed by the innovative camera system, powerful performance and class-leading audio. Now, the Sony Xperia IV is here, with a smattering of tweaks and upgrades to whet Sony fans’ appetites.

There are obvious additions – like the move to a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset – but more nuanced upgrades too, like the new Music Pro experience. Here’s all you need to know.
When will the Sony Xperia 1 IV be released?

Sony announced the Xperia 1 IV (alongside the Xperia 10 IV) on 11 May, promising that the phone would be launching “this month,” however, separately it also confirmed a UK-specific release date on 16 June, so availability unquestionably varies by market.

How much does the Sony Xperia 1 IV cost?

Even with the modest hardware improvements that the Xperia 1 IV brings to the table, Sony has seen fit to up the price once again, with the 12GB RAM/256GB SKU coming to the likes of the UK and Europe costing £1,299/€1,399, while the US model – is set to ship with 512GB of storage – is priced at $1,599.99.

Ever since Nothing began life in 2020, its movements have been closely tracked. The UK-based company was founded by Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, and released its first product last year – the Ear (1).

These affordable earbuds were generally well-received, but it always felt like a smartphone was the product Nothing was building towards. That became a reality with the official announcement of the Phone (1), which is scheduled to arrive this summer.

At release, the company stated that its launcher would only work on a handful of phones; namely the last two generations of Galaxy S phones, and Google’s Pixel 5 and 6 series.

Norton 360 Deluxe is so called because it really does offer all-round security that can protect your key devices as well as alert you if your logins are ever found for sale on the dark web, giving you an early heads-up of potential trouble and the opportunity to change your passwords.

Available for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android, some of the highlights include top-notch antivirus performance, phishing protection, and warnings of dangerous websites, a no-limits VPN service and a password manager, plus cloud backup storage and performance tools to help speed up your computer.

However, not all of those features are available on all devices. You won’t find parental controls for macOS, for example, and cloud backup is only for Windows. As usual, there aren’t a whole lot of features for iPhones.

The good news is that the core malware protection is superb. In AV-Test’s most recent report, Norton 360 scored top marks for protection, performance and usability.
